While approaching Madagascar back in 2015 we decided almost on a whim that, rather than rushing around South Africa and into the Atlantic, we should try to see a little of the African continent, about which we knew almost nothing. So while the rest of the cruising fleet turned south to South Africa, we made a few inquiries and decided to go north to Tanzania. We’re glad we did. Since then, we gained an almost resident status in the small coastal town of Tanga, Tanzania -- where it was very hard to say goodbye. We traveled inland and saw mountains and lakes and wildlife we'd only ever dreamed of. We saw elephants, and more elephants. We also sailed north to Lamu, Kenya and south down the Mozambique coast.
Our last months on this content (Dec 2017 -- April 2018) were spent in South Africa -- between Richards Bay and Cape Town and Namibia.
And now, after more than two and a half years in Africa, our time here is coming to an end. Tomorrow we sail west across the Atlantic. Here are a few photos (in four posts) from our our stay in these beautiful places -- impossible to capture but worth trying.
